I also found the paths too narrow and the garden overplanted. But I loved the long border. It has looked splendid each time I visited.

Gosh. I am surprised. I haven’t been to Dixter for a couple of years but prior to that I have been there many many times and I’ve never been disappointed. I applaud the sense of experimentation and change that Fergus has always led with. But maybe I’ve just been there at the right time of year with rosy specs on. Fritillary time was outstanding I remember fondly at the beginning of lockdown. And a time when there were so many orchids in the meadow that you could barely see the grass in between. But these are the meadow areas and not the borders which you feel are over planted and messy. Do you think this is all in pursuit of biodiversity?
