I've just bought a copy of this and I'm very much looking forward to getting stuck in. I have quite a few of these books, written from observation rather than reliant on the never-ending cache of "do this, do that" gardening. Does anyone still write like this?
It's now in my cart, as it doesn't appear to be something my local independent bookstore can order. As Ben mentions, observational books on gardening are the best. (Including yours, Henry Mitchell's, Eleanor Perènyi's, Ursula Buchan's, Mirabel Osler's, Marc Hamer's, et al.)

Me.
Well, yes.
Thank you for this!
I want a copy like yours Anne.
I would too!
Thank you! A delight to read. And imagine. Have a lovely weekend in your own autumnal garden.
Thank you. And I am - the sun is out and it’s beautiful. And - that is also the kind of pleasure that crosses the ages.
Yes there is. We are reminded of all who trod before us.
I ADORE this! I must find a copy!
Wonderfully, it's available.

Exhibiting good taste there.
I love old gardening books.
I cut my garden teeth on them.
What a lovely book this looks and I have been hunting for it without any joy. Thank you for such a cheering post.
Has that link help?
Yes, but I was hoping to find an old copy as it looks so beautiful!
Harder.
Very!
